Anna Belle Williams: Sharing Camp Connections With Others
For Anna Belle Williams, her years at Laity Lodge Youth Camp were about making lifelong connections-to other campers, to God, and to her faith. "LLYC has a unique way of reaching kids and bringing them closer to God," she says. "It is truly an amazing experience."
After years as a camper, Anna Belle spent a summer on the work crew and another as a counselor, wanting to have the same positive influence on young women that her counselors had on her. Today she enjoys Laity Lodge's Family Camp with her husband, Rob, and their two children, Luke and Zach. Following in their mother's footsteps, Luke has attended youth camp the last two summers, and Zach plans to start next year. "I hope they are able to find their own unique connection to God at camp," says Anna Belle.
While the camps at the H. E. Butt Foundation have quickly become a Williams family way of life, so has supporting the work. Both executives at Dell, Inc., Anna Belle and Rob participate in the company's charitable giving match program, making monthly contributions to Laity that are matched dollar for dollar by Dell. Recently, the family decided to channel their donations into the Rob, Anna Belle, Luke & Zach Williams LLYC Scholarship Fund. "We want all children to be able to go to camp," explains Anna Belle. "A relationship with God should not be dependent on money."
"Anna Belle is a model LLYC alumna," says David M. Rogers, President of the Foundation. "She is such an advocate. In addition to grafting her entire family into our programming, she and Rob have been very loyal givers. This year, they opted to establish a named LLYC scholarship fund, which is a phenomenal way to provide camp for young people in perpetuity. We are so grateful for this family."
Anna Belle, in turn, is thankful for all that the camps have meant to her and her family. "It is so important for me to part of something that I cherished so much as a kid and as an adult and to help pass it on to others," she says.
